DAB radio adapter

Post by matelots armpit on 22/6/2013, 19:24

Thought I'd share this one.

Been thinking for ages about changing the factory fit infotainment system in my very expensive car that doesn't have DAB. Built in satnav yes, but that's useless now because the nav discs I have for it are circa 2007 and I can't buy updated ones and even if I could, they cost £600 which is just plain STUPID! Also, doesn't have postcode navigation on it, which is even more useless! So the satnav issue is dealt with by the use of TomTom HD live, which is very very very (have I stated very enough?) good.

Onboard stereo unit has the standard CD slot and all the FM stations, but I am greedy and want some more! Anyway, today I went to my local Halfords, which I wouldn't ordinarily go to but they had what I wanted and it was on offer. So I buys a Sonichi S100 DAB adapter with free bundled magmount aerial included for £49.99.

Installed it this afternoon and it's the dogs nuts. Works via a cable via my stereo AUX, power from the filthy smoking gits cigar socket and of course, the nifty little magmount aerial.

Stations sound great. Took a spin round my local roads, then onto the most famous motorway in the whole world and no drops out or fading. Loving it having Planet Rock, Absolute, BFBS etc etc. My eleven speaker Bose system is lapping them up!

If you're interested, look on the Halfords website. I recommend it!!

Your on dangerous ground buying anything electrical from Halfords as I found out. It took three attempts buying a Sat Nav before I got one that worked. Staff knew the batch they had were faulty, but still carried on selling them? Had the same problem with their £49.99 radios. Now I advise friends to fit before leaving Halfords, or get them to fit.

Well, as rare as it is that I buy anything from Halfords these days, I've got no issues with this bit of kit, it works great. I certainly wasn't going to give some young lad thirty quid to fit the thing. It's not like it's rocket science, though I appreciate some people can't work out their arses from their elbows!

My motors have factory fitted DAB and I love it! Couldn't live without it now.

Slightly patchy coverage out in the sticks but that's to be expected.

Our new patrol cars have DAB, permanently tuned to either Absolute 80s or BFBS. Sad I know - living in the past. Wink

You'll have to make sure I'm in the right car first. We have 2 Disco 4s but only the 12 plate has DAB. The Shogun has a DVD player and the other 2 cars just have cd radios

Oh mines done that alright. You wanna see the show fields I went to last year. They were like swamps. Mine was the only one to make it out at one show. Rivers nope. Flood water yes. But then mine floats well.
