GPS

Post by BossHogg on 28/7/2013, 18:29

I have a little GPS
I've had it all my life
It's better than the normal ones
My GPS is my wife

It gives me full instructions
Especially how to drive
"It's sixty miles an hour", it says
"You're doing sixty five"

It tells me when to stop and start
And when to use the brake
And tells me that it's never ever
Safe to overtake

It tells me when a light is red
And when it goes to green
It seems to know instinctively
Just when to intervene

It lists the vehicles just in front
And all those to the rear
And taking this into account
It specifies my gear.

I'm sure no other driver
Has so helpful a device
For when we leave and lock the car
It still gives its advice.

It fills me up with counselling
Each journey's pretty fraught
So why don't I exchange it
And get a quieter sort?

Ah well, you see, it cleans the house,
Makes sure I'm properly fed,
It washes all my shirts and things
And - lets me have a shed.

Despite all these advantages
And my tendency to scoff,
I do wish that once in a while
I could turn the damned thing off.

A few years ago, I received an emailed link to a survey about SatNavs, although it didn't state that right away, it just said it was about driver navigation aids!

I filled it all in by relating their questions to my trusty road atlas, and my wifes map reading abilities.
The only bit I found difficult to answer was when it asked if I would pay to change the voice of my navigational aid!
The updates were no problem - just bought the 2014 Great Britain road atlas for £1.99 with all the latest updates on!! Laughing

MY signature?? affraid bootyshake
I had nothing to do with that... and PMPT showed himself to be more of a skinflint! balaclava

As to SatNavs - have never found a need for one yet - and never cease to be amazed at friends who turn them on in Windermere to go to Kendal or Lancaster! scratch
So far I have managed to find my way around Britain and France without the need to clutter up my dash - even when we had to get a ferry from Cherbourg to Poole, instead of Portsmouth - and we had never been to Poole before!fogie
bongo

On the other hand, being located in Staveley, we have had our share of drivers who ended up in Staveley in Cartmel, or one of the many Troutbecks because they allowed themselves to be seduced by technology they were not in full control of! wank  rofl

It is not for no good reason that around Grasmere and Langdale they are known as PRAT Navs, because of the numpties who get lost following them! jocolor

My advice, don't buy a vehicle with inbuilt sat nav if you don't want to pay £500+ for an update!!! affraid

I had to go and pick up something yesterday. My stepdad took me.

It is safe to say that five minutes in to the journey I'd flung the sat nav in the glove box in utter disgust and decided it would be better if we did the sensible thing and followed the road signs.

Turns out the sat nav, had we followed it, would have sent us in the opposite flipping direction!

Besides, it was either throw the sat nav in the glovebox or my stepdad throw me out of the car for falling out with the sat nav Embarassed Laughing.

I hate them with a passion, far bloody easier to read a map.

Yes, but you're sensible. Wink

I ain't fucking paying it either. It's getting traded in once I find something to replace it with.
