Films you have watched! (Or are currently watching).

Post by The Hawkster on 3/8/2013, 22:52

Hi all,

Thought I'd start this one of with somewhat of a military classic!

Currently watching "Black Hawk Down." It's a damn good film. One that I've not seen in a while, so it was somewhat of a refresher.

It's also an eye-opener as to just how everything can go tits up so very quickly.

The initial operation, according to the film at least, was supposed to take forty-five minutes tops. They were still there about a day later.

What are you watching!?

Saving Private Ryan.

A real good effort at showing the mayhem that ensues when "management" interfere with the normal course of events.

It also shows the reality of war in close up, the effects it has on different individuals, and the brutality that all too easily bubbles to the surface when certain parties think nobody is looking or cares.

I have taken my children to both Oradour sur Glane and the American cemetery at Omaha in order to impress upon them the importance of choosing diplomacy over war... but if war comes to you, then it has to be like treating cancer with chemo and radiation - a few healthy cells always get zapped too!  Sad

After that, Les Miserables - great value for money!!

I did well this week. Ordered the first 'Red' film from amazon as I had never seen it. It arrived in the evening, ten minutes before it was shown on Film 4!

Watched the film 'A bridge to far' today. Great film. Shame theres no mention of the dozens of under age kids (15 years old) who signed up and were there. One of whom was trapped under the Arnhem bridge throughout the fighting with 3 other soldiers. They swam to safety at the end of the fighting. Being under age, when he got back, they discharged him. He later married my Mothers best friend and lived next door to us. It was 5 years before he died that he was at last given a medal for being there. He was told for years that he couldnt have a medal because he had been under age!

My all time favourites are 'Love Actually' filmed where I used to live in Wandsworth. All the roads exist and so does the school. I have 6 copies and they are all different! Then theres 'Final Destination' I hate horror films. But I took a female friend to see it because she was in between boyfriends and wanted a man with her. Within 2 minutes of the film starting she was cuddling me and by the end of the film I had a new girlfriend! Its worked a few times since then.

Red is a personal favorite of mine, I initially saw the trailer and thought it looked crap then I got dragged along to see it and loved it - ordered the DVD as soon as I could

Tuesday just gone I went to a Charity Premier of RED2 and thought it was just as good

It's one of very few films that still has me laughing aloud no matter how many times I watch it.

They wanted to film it in Stow-on-the-Wold but were refused permission Evil or Very Mad.

I've probably watched it about 10 times but still find it laugh out loud funny every single time.

It's true to life in some of these parts. The 'sister and mother. Same person!' line is one Laughing.

Excuse me! I don't talk like that! I've been accused plenty of times of having a private education because of how I speak Laughing Definitely no 'yarp/narp' from me Laughing.

I've also watched 'Gladiator', definitely a classic!

And then, there's quite possibly one of my favourite movies of all time... High Fidelity. It is hilarious! John Cusack does a very good job, Jack Black, too! I highly recommend it!

My eldest son is known as "Corneto" at University, as he does such an accurate impression of the line in Hot Fuzz.
We have seen it countless times.

My wife is particularly fond of the line "There's nothing like a bit of girl on girl"!!.

The last film I saw in the cinema was The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone. A lot of it was stuff I'd heard before but it was still brilliant Very Happy. Definitely more of a fan thing than an actual documentary though.

it's dark, violent, gritty and sexy with iconic backdrops. it's british and it's full of sex, violence and guns. plus the baddies are ruthless bastards. what's not to like?

I really liked Green Street, even though a few friends thought it was utter crap. I don't think a lot of films are meant to be true-to-life Random Wink Laughing. It's escapism and entertainment Very Happy.

The number 23 starring Jim Carrey is starting at 10 on Ch4, the missus likes the look of it, I've put the telly on in the bedroom so she can watch it, hopefully she'll be asleep ASAP so I can knock the shite off and watch Discovery Turbo. It was crap when I watched it. scream
